Our History
Lodge Trinity started life in November 1778, when it received its charter from the Grand Lodge of Scotland. The membership of the lodge was made up mainly of members from Lodge Kilmolymock 45, our sister lodge in Elgin, who still operate and meet in the Scout Hut, Wards Road. The first master of the lodge was Captain John Innes of Leuchars, whose family are prominent landowners locally.
Members of the lodge have gone on to become Provincial Grand Master for the province of Moray and Nairn. These were Bros the Rev Dyke PM, Bert Taylor PM, and Andrew Morrison PM. The lodge presently hosts the quarterly communications of the Provincial Grand Lodge.
The lodge has operated continually since receiving its charter and has worked out of various premises. Firstly in what is now the Elgin Ex-Serviceman's Club, then the Assembly Rooms, and now in our present home in Masonic Close — opposite Moray Council HQ.
Lodge Trinity took on a new chapter on 7th February 2013, when Lodge Moray 1319, another Elgin lodge, made the decision to merge with Lodge Trinity 148. This came with an updated name: Lodge Trinity (Moray) 148. So you could say we are two lodges in one.
In 2020, like everywhere else, Lodge Trinity could not operate due to lockdowns, but since 2022 the lodge has been revived and is going from strength to strength.
